It sounds like the Tiny House Jamboree was an enormous success. 40,000 people from all 50 states and 10 countries to get a look at these crazy tiny houses. The event was held last weekend in Colorado Springs, CO. If you’re bummed you missed, I’m sure there will be another.
My favorite quote from an attendee was when one woman said:
“…It is crazy. It’s just a matter of which crazy do you want? Do you want to be in a mortgage for thirty years, or do you want to pay off something that might be small and then be able to do other things?”

I have owned an 8’x18′ tiny house for a few years. Here is my blog – http://www.ShabbyChicTinyRetreat.blogspot.com . While they may be a great idea for some people, tiny homes are not always that wonderful for others. They are illegal to actually live in them in most counties and cities across America. People piggy back off of others who own land and set them up illegally, in most instances. While you might not have a mortgage as a tiny home owner you may end up with a HUGE headache due to not being able to find a place to park your tiny home that is legal. One can easily become claustrophobic after spending a few weeks or a year inside one. I have many friends who jumped on the tiny house fad only to find they had to keep moving them from this place to that because they were in violation of local land use codes. I have owned very rural land with a normal size home and pay close to five thousand dollars a year in property taxes. I bought a tiny home to give myself options, and my next door neighbor called the county on me. They continued to follow up over and over again to make sure I was not actually living in my tiny home. Now that is land in over regulated nanny state of WA but similar stories are common place in other states. There is a site called Tiny house listings with tons of tiny homes for sale because they are not always what you think you want after “real life” in a tiny home. And not everyone wants to be a minimalist in order to live in a tiny home. You don’t have to be. There are no hand books for tiny home ownership and one can build a shed or use storage units to help them live successfully in a tiny home. Buying a small home on land seems like a much smarter option. I have both and would choose my home on land over a tiny any day. And by the way… one can be mortgage free in a home that is not a tiny home. Tiny home prices are often way more expensive than normal homes.
