How We Live: Tiny Houses

A radio talk show will be talking with Tammy & Logan. The air date is Wednesday, July 11th 2012 at 9:06 AM PST.

“This is the beginning of a new series that explores how — and where — people choose to live across the Northwest. We’ll talk about the unique places that people call home: floating homes, boats, vans, pocket neighborhoods and shipping containers come immediately to mind.

We begin with tiny houses. Among people in this world, tiny homes are normally less than 200 square feet and are on wheels. They generally cost less than $30,000 and you can’t get a traditional mortgage to buy one.

Tammy Strobel and her partner Logan Smith live in a tiny home. It is 128 square feet and was built on an eighteen by six foot trailer. It has a stove that uses alcohol as fuel, a free-standing electric-oil heater, and a simple plumbing set-up. They share wireless internet with the land owners. They don’t have a refrigerator or a shower.”
