Lake|Flato Porch House

A modular approach to larger homes that seems almost inspired by the flexibility of tiny homes. Lots of good ideas from this design.

“High efficiency mechanical systems, water saving features, natural ventilation systems with operable doors and windows, low embodied energy materials, healthy materials, daylighting, energy efficient LED lighting, and an overall “passive design” to the entire Porch House all work together to create a highly efficient house.”

  1. I appreciate the design quality on this one, but to me it really goes against the grain of tiny houses. It’s really a big house broken up, and at square foot prices of $125 and up really doesn’t help people of modest means. Yes, one could buy a module at a time and pay that off. How viable, though, is this approach in a somewhat urban environment like Austin? Seems like the zoning committees want to make it all cookie-cutter with no room for true energy and cost innovation in the same project.
