    It’s nice, but comes with the standard overpricing that has come to identify company built tiny houses.

      It’s really tough to build and sell tiny houses for a price that seems low enough. What people tend to forget is that the cost per square ft increases as the building gets smaller. This happens because in a small or tiny house all the important expensive stuff is still present but that the extra space is cut out. This particular home was also more expensive because it has cedar shingles and marble countertops.

      Overpriced? Yes, you could scrounge around, collect scraps, do all the labor yourself for free and it would be cheaper. I’ve been building custom homes for 30 years and it is just plain expensive these days. Tradesman’s wages haven’t gone up, but the materials have doubled in the last ten years. Some have tripled in cost. That is why we are talking about building small, right. I doubt these Iowa gentlemen are driving around in a Porsche or even a new truck.

    I’m really interested in building a tiny house in Southern California. We haven’t saved up yet, but could probably save some by next year. I don’t want one on wheels, so we’d need to buy land. I have no idea where to start. I’ve heard building a house can take up to 3 years around here because of the permitting process, it doesn’t make it feel impossible just daunting (could give us more time to save for what we really want). But I don’t know what to look for in terms of land, or contractors.

      I’m glad you like my little house. There is no price listed because we’re no longer selling. But originally it was for sale for 28.5k
