In my internet travels this week I ran across wall tents and thought they looked like great low cost temporary housing solutions. I was especially interested in the little low-cost stoves they sell, but sadly they are not intended for indoor cabin use… just for wall tents.

There are a lot of old cabins in the Yukon that started life as a wall tent. You can put them up on a floor platform, add a loft, build outside and inside walls, add insulation, windows and proper door and you can’t even tell after a while that there’s a tent in there. There’s a lot of tent links here http://www.shedandshelter.com/cabintents/cabintents.html
Great resource and info Alice… Thanks!
We love the rustic feeling of a wall tent. At our farm campground we have a couple of hybrid versions. They consist of a basic platform on which we place a modern “flex pole” tent and a heavy tarp roof structure over that. Platform is big enough for a “porch” and we never have to use the rain fly so sleeping in the rain is always cool and breezy. It wouldn’t hold up worth a darn in cold weather but its great in the summer.
Has anyone added on to an existing wall tent? I am considering adding on a greenhouse to the side.I am specifically looking for detailed instruction or examples. Thanks very much. email spiritandnature@hotmail.com
