Architect Joanna Borek-Clement has an incredible imagination. This is one of her recent design concepts, an extreme small house boat with an open plan and exposed structural elements.
It’s always interesting to see what architectural firms come up with when tasked to design small structures. This one was designed by Sanders Pace Architecture. Their client wanted an off-the-grid structure for weekend use. I think the exterior texture is really incredible as well as the dramatic projecting roofline.

Here’s a really cool tiny space designed by French architect Gilles Ebersolt. It was inspired by a wheelbarrow and intended to be used for spending a night outside in the greatest comfort. The walls are light curtains. Be sure to explore this architect’s website… there are many tiny structures like this one. I first saw this on This Tiny House.

This tiny structure by 2 B 2 Architecture is designed to house researchers in remote arctic regions. It’s designed to fold-up for transport and provides living and working space. This is definitely not the kind of do-it-yourself project I like to focus on but it’s always curious to look at solutions like this for inspiration.
While I really prefer inexpensive do-it-yourself housing solutions it’s always inspiring to find a really well done architect designed small home. This one was designed by Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects and is a cavernous 600 square feet. While the giant opening glass walls may not be very practical and seem a bit out of place with such an extravagant interior it seems like a great design approach for someone who wants to be more connected with their natural environment. It’s definitely worth a look though.
Here’s a really nice little tiny house design by Joseph Sandy. I really like the opposing roof lines and how that might help direct rain water into a cistern. Nice use of interior space too and features a cantilevered loft.
