A Transforming Shipping Container House
When you leave for work and want to lock your doors, you simply push the button again and the home is protected by it’s steel shell. One side of the container is populated predominately with floor-to-ceiling windows, bathing the interior with natural light on the cloudiest of days. The other side of the container is dedicated to the kitchen and storage space. There is also a bathroom with an open shower, sink and composting toilet.” – Niall

R2x20 – A Simple Container Home in Thailand
The one-bedroom, one bathroom home was built using two, 20-foot containers with cutouts for windows and doors. There’s a prefab bathroom inside and the interior is insulated with a recycled content material.
Located in Thailand, the home features a roof layer that’s raised above the home — not unlike the roof design of the Ultimate Desert House or Cinco Camp. Seems like a great way to use passive ventilation to keep the inside of the home nice and cool.

Single Mom Builds a Home Out of a Shipping Container
Lulu, a single mom from Southern California, recently went back to school, which prevented her from working full time to pay a market rent. Due to this she was forced to move out of her conventional home, so instead she decided to build for herself and her small daughter a home from a shipping container. She built the home herself with no prior construction experience.
Lulu was given the shipping container for free, and it took her about a month to cut out the windows and doors using a saw.” – Jetson GreenRead and see more at Jetson Green…

The Tin Can Cabin is Finished
I’m not sure a cabin is ever truly finished, but this is as good a time as any to say it is… I still have a long list of things I want to do, but I’m finally to the point where I don’t feel “I have to” do them – at least for now. Still on my wish list are a room divider between the desk and entry area, a built-in storage bench for the entry, routered out rafters for the door locking bars, an upgraded bathroom with a composting toilet and a real shower stall, foundation skirting for some secure under cabin storage, and last but not least, a shipping container barn (more on this at a later date).” – Steve

Snoozebox – Shipping Container Based Portable Temporary Housing
While this solution is not a tiny house, it is an interesting example of micro housing and what can be done in a tiny space. I also like how all this functionality has been packed inside a transportable shipping container.
Wherever quality, temporary accommodation is needed, Snoozebox provides a fast, flexible and cost-effective solution with almost limitless applications. The standard ISO container size enables Snoozebox to be loaded, stacked and transported quickly and efficiently by road, rail, air or sea to almost any destination in the world.” – Snoozebox
