  • Geo-Lite Hybrid Yurts

One of my readers, David, tipped me off to these simple prefab yurts made by Geo-Lite Systems. They also sell some very interesting stand-alone home utility systems that combine the bathroom, kitchen, heating, electric power  and waste handling systems. Great find, thanks David.

  • Treehouse for Play

While this is a treehouse designed for kids, it’s a really inspiring design. I suspect it’s not completely practical with the translucent fiberglass cladding but the design was so well done I just had to share it with you. It was designed by Canadian designer Nicko Björn Elliott.

  • Log Home Redefined

This is a small building made to look like a woodpile. It’s the office and music studio of Piet Hein Eek in The Netherlands but I see some excellent camouflaging ideas here.

  • Rooftop Trailer Park

OK… this is just weird, but I like it. It’s a cluster of seven Airstream trailers on the roof of the Grand Daddy Hotel in South African. While this kind of turns my stomach a little I must admit I like the idea of extending habitable space but using small modular units. I would just prefer to see it extending habitable space for people who need it and not more luxury rooms in an expensive hotel… but then I’m weird that way. Rooftop Trailer Park

  • Zero Energy Casita

While this 1000+ square foot house isn’t tiny, it is a good example of how new technology and reclaimed materials can be blended in a new energy efficient home with a traditional appearance.

  • Palladio’s Escape Cottage

You might have seen this on Facebook over the last few days. It’s the prototype for a tiny house kit that the builder hopes to sell as prefab components or a complete house. It’s a really amazing design too and looks custom, not like a prefab. This variation is 412 square feet and would cost in about $29,000 to build the shell with new materials.

  • DIY-Prefab by Malcolm A. White

One of my long-time readers, Malcolm A. White, has years of experience in construction & design that he is now sharing through his new blog DIY-Prefab. In fact I don’t think my own ebook, Tiny Prefab, would be nearly as complete had it not been for all of Malcolm’s feedback and input.

If you have an interest in self-fabricated tiny houses I highly recommend that you visit and bookmark Malcolm’s new blog. DIY-Prefab

  • Gypsy Wagons

My Facebook page has been great for meeting new people. One of my recent introductions was to Robert, the builder of this amazing little Gypsy Wagon. He builds them for retail art fair display and camping. I’ll do a more complete post on Tiny House Design soon but in the mean time take a look at his photo album of tiny gypsy wagons.

  • Bike Trailer House

One of my readers, Tom, sent me two links to some great bike pulled trailer houses in Germany. While the thumbnail images on the first website aren’t clickable you can right-click (or control-click on a Mac) and view the image in a new window. Very inspiring to see someone building bike pulled tiny houses. Thanks again Tom, great find!
