  • Tiny Houses in the News

  • M112 Pods

This is a tiny 1:12 scale replica (toy size) of a shipping container tiny house. There probably aren’t too many kids as fascinated with tiny houses as there are adults… but if you have one you might want to pick on of these up.

  • Tiny Boat Houses in the Maldive Islands

Here’s another way to build a tiny house… right on the back of an old boat. The Maldive Islands is a tiny country in the Indian Ocean formed by a group of 26 atolls. The average elevation is 4′ 11″ so it would seem natural for these folks to build homes on boats. Looks like an amazing place to visit before the end of the century (if you catch my drift). Photo credit Chi King. I first saw this on Red Headed Frog.

  • Winner of 2009 Shed Design Competition

The Open Office, designed by Kenny, won the 2009 shed design competition at Secrets of Shed Building. One of the key features of this garden office is a set of sliding wood panels mounted to a rail system on the exterior of the building. They serve to block sunlight as well as provide privacy when needed. Congratulations Kenny!

  • Katy’s Vardo

Katy Anderson and Dee Williams are launching a new tiny house business, The Portland Little House Construction Co. Both Katy and Dee have a lot of tiny house living and building experience and I suspect the homes they build will rival Tumbleweed Tiny Houses in quality but will have a style all of their own.

  • Tiny Solar House Plans

This past week I published a set of tiny house plans for tiny solar house. It’s a little 8′ by 12′ saltbox that can be built in multiple units so the owner builder can build a larger home (12×16, 12×24, 12×32, etc) from the same set of plans. The 40-page plans cost $9.99 and can be ordered online and downloaded to your computer.

  • Tidal Wave Proof Tiny House

OK… not really… well maybe… actually I bet this is tidal wave proof. It’s a tiny hotel accommodation currently in the Netherlands made from an oil rig escape pod. So on your next trip abroad be on the lookout for odd places to stay… you never know what kind of tiny little place you might find and how it might make your trip a little more interesting.

  • Dan’s Tiny House – Roof Update

Dan is building a house for his mom. He’s been making steady progress and the house is really coming together nicely. What is not nice is the weather… he’s been fighting storm after storm… but he’s doing a heroic job keeping the pace up in the face of this constant adversity.

You can now see the dormers he’s building and that the roof is almost closed in completely. I suspect that he’ll be weather-proofed soon.

  • The Great Escape Update

James and Kristen have moved into their tiny house but have been encountering tough milestones as they work to make their great escape. I really admire these folks and have been impressed with their strength as they overcome each challenge. I suspect the light at the end of the tunnel is getting bigger and brighter for them and looking forward to seeing how their story develops once they are settled into their new tiny home and head out for Texas.
