  • Tiny House Women Took Their Eco-Friendly Business On The Road

Derek ‘Deek’ Diedricksen visits with China Rose and AJ Zamora and gets the complete tour of their unique gypsy wagon inspired tiny home. It’s a live-work space where they also run their business, China Rose Wellness.

One of the best space saving features I’ve seen in a tiny house is their floating bed. It lowers from the ceiling via a tow winch motor, pulleys, and cables. The slanted walls help support the bed when its lowered at night for sleep.

In the bathroom is a composting toilet, laundry machine, bathtub and a sink that shares the tubs faucet and folds into bathtub space when the tub is not in use. Great space saving idea!

In their previous they developed some health issues due to mold, so in their tiny home’s construction they used tons of natural materials and low VOC sealants.

  • Adam & Vanessa’s VanLife Experience

Van dwellers Adam & Vanessa visit with tiny house dwellers Derek & Hannah at their homestead in Saint David, Arizona and get the full van tour! Adam & Vanessa also share what they’ve learned so far living a full-time vanlife.

Adam & Vanessa built their van over 3 months and it cost about $28,000 US (2008 Sprinter van plus customizations). Inside they have a fully functional kitchen, bed, tons of storage, and a hidden composting toilet. They built all the cabinets themselves including the reclaimed maple countertops.

  • DIY LED Awning Lights

Derek and Hannah have a large awning/porch that’s about as big as their tiny house, and basically doubles their usable living space when the weather is nice. But until now the lighting out there has been a bit inadequate. In the video below, Derek from DIY Homestead Projects demonstrates in detail how he installed LED lighting in the awning. He worked as an electrician for several years – so he knows his stuff, making his DIY electrical videos awesome.

Derek has been super busy lately – finishing his new tiny house construction book and making more DIY videos. You can check all that out on his DIY Homestead Projects website. He also has tons of free how-to videos on his DIY Homestead Projects YouTube Channel.  Photo above via Derek’s video below.

  • Box Truck Film Coming Soon

In a recent how-to video Derek ‘Deek’ Diedricksen and Alex Eaves give an informal peek at the box truck they are building for the movie, Box Truck Film.

The film is about reuse, and Deek & Alex have teamed-up to convert a used box truck into a tiny house & mobile reuse education center. They’ve already funded a good portion of the film, but it’s not too late to participate in their crowdfunding campaign.

Below Deek & Alex explain the project and how you can help. Photos via Alex Eave’s YouTube Channel.

  • Dabney & Alan’s Summit Prairie Fire Lookout

Dylan Magaster visits Dabney & Alan’s tiny house fire lookout in Oregon. They had this 18’x18′ fire lookout built in 2009. It took about 90 days to build the shell, and another 90 days to finish the interior. Photos via the video by Dylan Magaster.

  • Live Like Robinson Crusoe

Have you ever dreamed of living on a tropical island in a treehouse like Robinson Crusoe? It’s a dream many of us have imagined. Kristie Wolfe bought land in Hawaii sight-unseen for just $8,000. A year later, with the help of her mother, she built her bamboo treehouse. It took two months and $11,000 to build initially. Now the home is available to rent on Airbnb.com.

See more photos of the treehouse on Kristie’s Instagram. Photo by Kristie.

Kirsten Dirksen toured the house with Kristie back in 2014 (video below). For more great tiny house tour videos follow Kirsten on YouTube.

Here’s what the house looks like as a vacation rental (video below). To see how the house was built visit Kristie’s Channel on YouTube.

  • Alex & Sara’s Sprinter Van Conversion

Sara & Alex live and work full time on the road in their Sprinter van conversion. They built it themselves and started with a used van that had only about 55,000 miles on it. The van initially cost about $25,000 to buy and $14,000 and 3 months to finish. Read about all the van build details on the 40 Hours of Freedom website.

Inside they have a wet bath with a shower & toilet, a fully functional kitchen, a large table that quickly converts into a large bed, and tons of storage. I especially like how they finished the van off inside – white with wood accents really brightens it up inside. Their van started as a passenger van, so it has lots of windows too.

To earn a living they run an online business teaching folks how to start and run an online business. Watch this video about how they earn a living on the road.

Below is their van tour video. If you want to learn more about their van conversion and how they live and work full time on the road subscribe to the 40 Hours of Freedom YouTube Channel and visit the 40 Hours of Freedom website.
