  • The Grub Shack

I’m an avid follower of the events unfolding at The Field Lab in southwest Texas. John Wells has been making steady progress on welding up the steel arches for his 4-shipping container based green house.

John regularly mentions the important things in his life, his friend Benita (a volunteer pet longhorn), and his favorite local eating establishment, The Grub Shack.

This was the first time I’d seen a photo of the now famed gourmet eating establishment. I think this might be the first tiny restaurant I’ve posted on any of my websites. I had to include a full size photo here so you could get a good look. Love it! Happy One-Year-In-Business Anniversary Betty!

  • Field Chapel in Boedigheim, Germany

The Field Chapel in Boedigheim, Germany built by a team of students from the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, led by Professor Frank Flury. The chapel was completed in just 8 weeks with the help of volunteers. While it stands 9 meters high the entire interior floor space consists of just two small rooms.

  • Crystal River Tree House

Green Line Architects has really come up a great whimsical tree house. This one was designed as a sanctuary for kids of all ages. I’m sure it wasn’t inexpensive to build but it sure is inspiring.

  • Tiny House Eden

This is a great story about several homeless advocacy groups getting together to create a tiny house village for the homeless in Sacramento, California. Bathroom and kitchen facilities will be centralized but people will have their own tiny houses to sleep in at night. This seems like a great step in the right direction. I really hope projects like this are successful and set a precedent for more communities like this.

  • Cozy Cottage For Sale

I really like the design of this tiny house. The steep roof and low side walls really give it a cottage look. This one is also for sale and located in Sebastopol, California. The seller is asking $19,900 for it.

  • Tiny Prefab – eBook & Plans

The ebook is a 65 page downloadable PDF that includes the plans ans assembly instructions for a panelized prefab building system a do-it-yourselfer could build with common building materials. It’s $27 and includes free updates.

  • Portland Tiny Homes

Tammy Strobel from RowdyKittens just did a guest post on Tiny House Blog about these great little houses in Portland. They were built by Jeff and Brad who make an extra effort to reuse and recycle while creating these tiny habitable works of art.

  • Urban Rancher

This is a great story of the Urban Rancher, a freelance designer in Los Angeles who has bought some property in the mountains outside of town and is building a mortgage free tiny house. Construction has just begun but first he’s got to visualize some design options. This is definitely a project to follow.

  • Retro Trailers

I’ve really enjoyed some of the recent retro travel trailer posts on Tiny House Blog. These teardrop trailer designs are really incredible and they pack a lot of function into so little space.
